Sometime in March, Neil Zawicki spent two weeks painting strange portraits of the most vicious NeoCons from the Bush Administration and beyond. This exercise led him to the conclusion that a deck of cards featuring these portraits would be a wonderful way to commemorate those mean years. This is a commemorative deck in the sense that all the players from that era, and many that continue to operate in our political arenas, are worthy of such a treatment. This is art with an application, a museum piece of the NeoCon years. In keeping with his background in journalism, we've included a bonus card, naming each NeoCon and attributing a quote to each. We've also included some media heavies that belong in the deck.

Neil Zawicki is a journalist and illustrator who covered politics and military affairs in Alaska while selling his paintings in coffee houses and bars. The cards were created in Portland, Ore. from original 8x10 portraits done in acrylic on Masonite board. Each deck features a specific NeoCon for each card value, with key elements designed to bring out the special qualities that define each one. There’s also a bonus card, naming who’s who on each card and attributing a quote to that person. There’s Bill O’Reilly screaming “f#*k it! We’ll do it live!” and Don Rumsfeld explaining how death “has a tendency to encourage a depressing view of war.”
